Day Ticket Testimonials
Another great day on the day ticket beat. Overnight rain had put a slight tinge and increase in usual summer water level, so with coolish temperatures I set off with a nymphing setup. Steady trickle of mayfly’s, olive uprights and the occasional, what I think, were yellow mays coming off throughout the day. Fished the faster sections and riffles with good success, successful flies being smallish dull bead head (copper or black) nymphs with very small and discrete hot spots i.e. small fluorescent collars (2 or 3 turns of floss / thread) or very short tags. In the faster, deeper sections I upped the bead size to 3mm – 3.5mm to get down in the water column.
Around mid afternoon there were large numbers of olive uprights coming off in the run with the raised bank where sand martins nest, successfully swapped over to a poly wing dun and picked up several lovely rainbows in the fast and broken water. Continued to swap and change between nymphing and dry fly into the evening, picked up several more, was hoping for an evening with spinners but the sun dipped behind the hill and temperature dropped and with that surface activity tailed off. Finished up with 21 caught, 21 returned – 10 browns and 11 rainbows. Lost a really big brown on a nymph, had it on for a couple of minutes before it threw the hook, look distance catch and release. The loss will haunt me for a bit, next time ….
Two great days on a brilliantly run stretch, need to start saving up to join as a member.
Once again, many thanks.

Just wanted to thank you for enabling those new to fly fishing the chance to fish a great river in fantastic surroundings. Yesterday was my first outing alone after having a couple of lessons – and I caught a beautiful brown rout within the first hour! It’s safe to say I’m hooked. Fly fishing is on my mind all the time and I can’t wait to get back out there. Thanks again and I’ll be booking again as soon as I have the chance.

Just wanted to say what an exceptional day I had on Saturday on your day ticket water in Monsal Dale. The setting was magnificent, the fish free rising and equal to anything I’ve experienced anywhere. Thanks also to Chris for his advice at the start of the day. I will definitely be back!

My guest NM and I had a lovely day in Monsal Dale on Monday. Tricky in the morning – bright and we being a bit ‘rusty’ but great sport in the afternoon with the Mayfly starting to hatch. Between us we caught 7 trout (and missed as many!) mostly brownies but I did have a nice 1 lb plus rainbow. We hope to see you again soon.

A friend and I had day tickets on 8 July – here are our catch returns. I had 13 brown trout, caught on beaded PTN, beaded GRHE, Snowshoe Hare Emerger, Klinkhamer and CDC Emerger. My friend had 26 browns and 4 rainbows, caught primarily on a Snowshoe Emerger. It was our third annual outing and we had a very enjoyable day on a lovely fishery.
Many thanks,
NB
No exaggeration, you have a superb fishery – so much variety on the day ticket stretch, with all that scenery, and the river and fish are in such good condition. Thanks for keeping a section open to us blow-ins!

Possibly one of my favourite places to fish – anywhere. Beyond the world – beating setting and scenery, the beat offers everything a fisherman could want – deep pools, fast flowing riffles and calmer runs, providing plenty of variety and challenges on the dry fly and nymph. Equally, I love the fact that it’s not manicured like many southern chalk streams. I’ll be back next season in a heartbeat!
